What are the 6 Most Common Flowering Trees in Dublin?
What are the 6 Most Common Flowering Trees in Dublin? At M O Sullivan Garden and Tree Services we decided to put together a short list of our favourite flowering trees that are found growing in the wild and in the gardens of our clients such as in Crumlin, Tallaght, Rathfarnham, Kimmage, and Walkinstown to name but a few places. By planting different trees you can have fresh colour coming into your garden for all of the growing season.
Our favourite Flowering Trees
- Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna): Also known as the May tree, it produces white or pink blossoms in late spring, often associated with the arrival of summer.
- Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia): This tree, also called mountain ash, displays clusters of white flowers in spring, followed by red berries in autumn.
- Silver Birch (Betula pendula): While not known for its showy flowers, the silver birch produces elegant catkins in spring, adding a delicate touch to the landscape.
- Wild Cherry (Prunus avium): Native to Ireland, the wild cherry tree produces beautiful white blossoms in spring, which give way to small red or black cherries later in the year.
- Common Ash (Fraxinus excelsior): Ash trees have inconspicuous flowers that appear before the leaves in spring, but they contribute to the overall greenery and beauty of the landscape.
- Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus): While technically not native to Ireland, the sycamore is widespread and often planted. It bears small, greenish-yellow flowers in spring, followed by winged seeds.
